Blessed are those who mourn

This week we continue with the discussion of the Beatitudes.

Jesus said "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

The person who mourns is the one who becomes poor in spirit and repents. To mourn means to realize that you have sinned and how much that hurts God. When we become "poor in spirit," we admit we need God.

Psalm 38:19 "I acknowledge my guilt and grieve over my sin."

The Bible does not try to explain suffering. But it does teach us how to handle it: By receiving the comfort of God. How do we receive this awesome comfort?

1.  Realize that God is with you.  When you are hurting, God is with you in your pain.

2. Release the hurt.  God says "your past is your past. Let it go!"  Say to yourself  "I realize God is with me and I release the past." Release your hurt to God and let him handle it.

3. Rely on God's resources: (1) God's word. Fill your mind with Scripture. (2) God's people. God intended the church to be a family, where the family members are there to comfort each other. (3) God's spirit. The greatest comfort of all! God wants to be your friend.

"The God of all comfort comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort others with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."  2 Cor 1:3-4

When you invite Jesus into your life, He puts his Spirit in you, to help you become what God wants you to become."May the God of hope fill you with joy ... that by the power of the Holy Spirit, your whole life and outlook may be radiant with hope."  Romans 15:13

I wish you a great week.
